Operation Barrel: Russian Resistance Group Claims $10 Million Railway Oil Strike

According to the group’s statement

The Freedom of Russia resistance group claims it carried out an operation inside Russia that destroyed oil tank cars and disrupted railway activity at several key stations. Named “Operation Barrel,” the reported attack allegedly targeted more than 10,000 tonnes of crude oil intended to support Russia’s military and industrial economy. the operation caused more than $10 million in direct losses, including the estimated market value of the destroyed oil and damage to railway rolling stock. It also claims that several important railway stations were forced to suspend operations, creating congestion across parts of the rail network that lasted for days. The group further alleges that the disruption affected logistics corridors used to transport military supplies, potentially delaying shipments and complicating Russia’s ability to move resources toward the front. However, the precise amount of oil destroyed, the financial losses, and the scale of the railway disruption have not been independently confirmed.

The resistance group says all participants remained safe and describes the operation as evidence of vulnerabilities in Russia’s domestic infrastructure security

If the claims are verified, the incident would highlight how attacks on fuel transportation and railway networks can impose costs beyond the immediate damage, potentially affecting the wider logistics system supporting Russia’s war effort.
